I Am The Stupid One

A few days ago, Moawiz had his Junior Variety Show in which he was a participant in three of the choirs. He came home and said, Apa, I am going to wear this Silver sparkly shirt with a Bow tie and it looks so cute on me. And I was smitten. My thoughts were like, dude, you know more about clothes than I do.

Which is hilarious considering I am a girl and you are 7.

Anyway, so there we were on the day, proudly sitting in the audience, looking at the program, trying to figure out which choir out of five were his, listed on the paper. Anyway, they came on stage. While everyone is figuring out their positions on the stage, my dear brother is more interested in where my mom is in the audience. His eyes dart here and there, left and right, a bewildered expression on his face, which showed where his interest really was.

My mom being the amazing impulsive person she is, gets up from her seat, starts waving crazily at him, shouting, Moawiz, I am right here. I duck down, thinking I do not know this woman, people.

Moawiz on the other hand has an opposite reaction. He breaks into a huge smile, gives a thumbs up to my mom and says something to his friend.

When the second poem of their's starts and they come on stage wearing silver sparkly shirts looking like escorts at a beauty pageant and I have had enough of the terrible fox dance by a bunch of 4th graders who were doing "thumkas" because that is OBVIOUSLY what a fox does. How stupid of me.

They start singing and I am looking at my youngest brother with an exasperated expression on my face who is making all the wrong hand gestures. The lines they are singing are " its a small world something something", and while everyone else has their arms wide open making a huge circle, Moawiz has his hands folded making a small circle with his hands. I was furious, to say the least.

The minute he comes off the stage, I start grilling him for detail, asking him what went wrong, and what the hell was he doing up there. He looks at me, long and hard, smirks, and says in a very annoyed voice which made me sound like the stupid one, Apa, the line was "its a SMALL world" So we were suppose to make smaller circles. Everyone else was making the wrong gestures instead of me.

I stood their dumbfounded. This is what the world has come to. I admit. I am stupid.

Dear Diary

Yesterday, I was studying and I glanced over at Moawiz. He was writing something in a neon green diary. And when I saw what he was writing, I was exhilarated. He was writing a diary. He had written the date at the top and had described his day, all on his own.

I started writing diary when I was in 6th grade. Than I stopped writing. I picked up the pen again in 8th grade when I thought that life was cruel which it really was not. But I guess it was for a 13 year old. Ahhhhh ! The life of a 13 year old.

Anyway, my diary found me writing in it once again in 9th grade. So my relationship with it is very on and off type. When things seem very hard, I write in my diary. When things are awesome and I cannot contain my happiness, I write it down. And like an everlasting companion, my diary is always there to welcome me with open arms, never complaining for abandoning it. I have to say that I probably have more diaries than I write in. What can I say ? I love diaries. Especially when there is leather, quotes and keys involved.

I am amazed that Moawiz wants to write a diary. Its an amazing habit which contributes to so much when you grow up. I hope that he follows this through. And that someday, I can tell him all about this day.

P.S. Please excuse my horrendous photography. :D

The Story Of Leftovers

This is the story of leftovers in my house. I am sure that this a very big problem in every house. It is a major one in our house. And my dear mommy is always finding new ways to recycle or get rid of leftovers and not waste them. Because well, we cannot eat the same thing twice. Or eat a three day old curry.

Once my mom took out all the leftovers from the fridge and made them into some kind of rice. Honestly, it tasted very, very bad. And I am not kidding. But obviously we could not say that to our mom. So we all ate it with big plastic smiles on our faces and said that it is delicious, etc. But that is just us being nice. When it came to my six year old brother Moawiz, firstly he refused to eat it. But when he was forced to take a bite, he said, "eww, this tastes like shit". And well, my mom was not pleased.

So now, my mom has found a new way of getting rid of leftovers. Last night, she invited all of my eldest brother Huzaifa's friends over for dinner. Because believe me, they are always hungry and they eat absolutely everything. So the menu was, "Paaye" (its a famous Lahori dish made with goats legs), "Magaz" (this is goats brain), "Karaylay Qeema" (Bitter gourds and minced meat), "Baingan Ka bhurta" (brinjals), "Seekh Kebab" and some sort of curry. They ate everything and the loved it. Funny thing is that they new they were eating leftovers. So this the new strategy being applied in my house for getting rid of leftovers.

So my sincere thanks to all the boys who ate that food because otherwise I would have to eat them. Thank you !

P.S. Just so you all know, the food was just one day old and was absolutely in no way poisonous. And we do not serve leftovers to our guests.
